The Glory of God

"So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son" (John 1:14).

Moses asked to see God's glory, and he did get a limited view (Ex. 34:5-8) that caused him to fall down in awed worship. The fulfillment of that request is in Jesus himself, in whom we see the true picture of who and how God really is. The phrase "unfailing love and faithfulness" in Exodus is essentially the same as the one in John.

How have you seen the unfailing love and faithfulness of the Lord this year?  Has he rescued you from all kinds of troubles, or has he given you peace in the midst of your troubles? Has he healed you physically, or has he given you healing in your inner spirit? Has he shown you how loving he is to you in the middle of trouble and pain all around you?

Has he shown you how to show love and tenderness to people around you, even people who don't have any idea who he is? Has he given you a greater desire to love even the difficult ones in your life? And has your ability to love others increased as you have seen more clearly the glory of the Lord, revealed in Jesus and revealed directly to you in your own times of private prayer and closeness with God?

God loves. God saves. God is faithful and true. He always has been, is and will be. How can you carry that assurance into 2014? Let me suggest a growing daily routine of time alone with God, time being reassured by his word and by his Spirit; times of devoting yourself completely to God with no distractions; and learning new ways to experience the truth of his constant presence with you. His grace will carry you as you follow your heart's desire to know him.
